This guide will take you through everything Telluride has to offer for a truly memorable Independence Day weekend.

Telluride Plein Air Festival (June 30th - July 6th)

Immerse yourself in art during the Telluride Plein Air Festival. Witness renowned artists capture Telluride's beauty through open-air painting. Enjoy the quick draw competition held in a designated location within Telluride Town Park (exact location TBA), artist receptions held at various galleries throughout town (check the festival website for details), and a three-day sale showcasing the week's creations at a central location (to be announced).

Telluride Red, White, and Blues (July 3rd & 4th)

Unleash your inner patriot with the Red, White, and Blues celebration in Mountain Village. Immerse yourself in a two-day extravaganza featuring delicious food from local vendors, refreshing drinks at a beer garden offering wine as well (location within the Mountain Village Core to be confirmed), and exciting activities for all ages – the perfect way to build up to the grand finale. Expect live music throughout the day, with a variety of genres to keep everyone entertained.

Telluride Foundation Rundola Race July 4th (8 AM):

Location: South Oak Gondola Station, Telluride

Test your endurance with the Rundola, Telluride's annual uphill foot race. Challenge yourself as you race from the base of the gondola (South Oak Gondola Station) to the top of the ridge, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains along the way. The Rundola is a challenging race with a significant elevation gain, so be sure to train appropriately beforehand.

Rundola Race Registration:

  • Online registration is available on the Telluride Foundation website (link to be added).
  • Onsite registration is also available on July 3rd from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Oak Street Plaza in the Town of Telluride (subject to race availability).
  • Race bibs and t-shirts will be distributed during registration.

Rundola Race Day:

  • Participants are encouraged to arrive early on race day for parking and bib pick-up.
  • Emergency bib pick-up will be available on race day from 6:45 AM to 7:45 AM at the South Oak Gondola Station.
  • The race starts promptly at 8:00 AM. Runners should plan to walk or take the gondola back down to Telluride or Mountain Village after the race. The finish line closes at 10:00 AM.
  • Awards for the top three finishers in each age group will be presented at a podium ceremony with breakfast at Oak Street at 10:00 AM.

Telluride 4th of July Parade 2024 (11 AM):

Location: The parade winds its way down Colorado Avenue, starting at Aspen & Colorado Avenues and ending at Willow & Colorado Avenues.

Telluride holds onto a beloved tradition – the 4th of July Parade! Witness an all-American procession filled with enthusiastic locals, adorable dogs, colorful floats depicting patriotic themes, and lively marching bands. Grab a spot along Colorado Avenue to cheer on the participants and be sure to grab your kids a Telluride American Flag T-Shirt to commemorate!

Parade Participation: Anyone is welcome to be in the parade without registering, but for those who want to be considered for prizes and be announced by the commentators, registration is recommended. Registration details and forms can be found on the Telluride Town website (link to be added).

Parade Guidelines:

  • Don't throw candy – toss it or hand it out directly to avoid any hazards for children.
  • Water balloons/guns are allowed, but use them responsibly. Only shoot other consenting participants and avoid anyone who asks you not to target them.
  • Open container laws are enforced, so save the alcoholic beverages for after the parade.
  • Only licensed drivers should operate vehicles in the parade.

Telluride Art Walk July 4th (5 PM - 8 PM):

Location: Participating galleries throughout Telluride (check the Telluride Arts website for a list of participating venues)

After the parade, delve into the Telluride Art Walk. Participating galleries throughout Telluride will host receptions showcasing new exhibits featuring a variety of artistic mediums and talented artists. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their work, and potentially find a unique piece of art to take home as a souvenir. Movies Under the Stars Mountain Village July 4th (8:30 PM):

Location: Reflection Plaza in Mountain Village

Cozy up with family and friends at Reflection Plaza in Mountain Village for a delightful movie night under the stars. "The Sandlot" is the perfect choice to end the day with a touch of nostalgia. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for comfortable seating, and feel free to pack some snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movie (alcoholic beverages are not permitted). Dress warmly as mountain evenings can get cool.

Telluride 4th of July Fireworks (Dusk):

Location: Telluride Town Park

As dusk settles, prepare to be dazzled by Telluride's renowned fireworks display. Find a comfortable spot in Telluride Town Park and witness a breathtaking explosion of colors illuminating the night sky. The fireworks are best viewed from anywhere within Telluride Town Park, with the open space offering unobstructed sightlines. Be sure to arrive early to secure your spot, as Telluride Town Park fills up quickly for this popular event. Restrooms are available within the park, but there are no food or drink vendors on-site. Consider bringing a picnic basket with snacks and drinks to enjoy before the fireworks begin.

Telluride Farmers Market July 5th (10:30 AM - 3:30 PM):

Location: South Oak Street in Telluride, right next to the Gondola

Support local farmers and artisans at the Telluride Farmers Market.
